Yuma, Arizona - For almost 50 years, Alice Waters has used food as a catalyst for social, environmental, and political change. Now, she is advocating that schools across California adopt a pledge to offer a “free, sustainable school lunch for all students K-12.” Waters proposes that schools source their food directly from farmers and ranchers who take care of the land, transforming school lunch into something that is “civil and meaningful,” and she claims costs will remain the same. Using California as a model, Waters hopes that schools across the United States and around the world embrace this pledge.

Yuma, Arizona - Wednesday, at approximately 5:57 p.m., a Yuma Police Department Officer made contact with Gilbert Gallegos in the 200 block of S. 9th Avenue. When asked to give his name, Gallegos gave a false name. When the officer asked about his identity a second time, Gallegos threw a cell phone at the officer striking him and ran. The officer gave chase and caught up with Gallegos, who began physically fighting with the officer.

Phoenix, Arizona - The Arizona Department of Health Services has received $1 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration at the US Department of Health and Human Services to enhance efforts to recruit health providers to serve in rural and underserved areas through ADHS’ State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP). The federal funding increases the total SLRP funding annually to $2 million, 100% of which goes to loan repayment contracts.
