Yuma, Arizona - Are you an aspiring genealogist? On Wednesday, September 7th, Special Collections Librarian Laurie Boone will present two genealogy workshops in the Conference Room at the Main Library. Novice and experienced genealogy researchers are welcome! There is no charge to attend; however, space is limited.

Yuma, Arizona - The Center for Teaching Effectiveness (CTE) at Arizona Western College presents the Noon Discovery Series 2.0 (NDS) for the AWC Community at large.  The next upcoming presentation in the series is “Value of Yuma’s Higher Education to Local and Global Tranquility” featuring Dr. Frank Kidd, Faculty, NAU-Yuma Branch Campus. The presentation takes place on Wednesday, August 31st from 12:15pm to 1:30pm in AC 111 and via ITN SLLC CR, PLC 15 and QLC 15.

Yuma, Arizona - Since peak monsoon season is here, we probably can expect more summer storms to pass through our area (especially this last week of August coming up). Every year some of Arizona’s drowning deaths involve flash floods. Never drive into a flooded wash or other area of running water. Remember, “Turn around, Don’t Drown!” Here are some additional things to keep in mind:

Yuma, Arizona - In April of this year there were two tragic incidents involving fatal drownings of young children in backyard pools in the Yuma area. Since then, within the boundaries of the City of Yuma there have been six additional near drowning incidents involving children and backyard pools. As of last night, there have been three in August alone!
