Attorney General Brnovich Finds Bisbee’s Plastic Bag Ban Violates State Law

Phoenix, Arizona - Attorney General Mark Brnovich has concluded the City of Bisbee’s plastic and carryout bag regulations violate state law. Brnovich determined Bisbee’s regulations conflict with state law, which prohibits municipalities from regulating the sale or use of disposable carryout bags by private businesses.

NIH BRAIN Initiative launches cell census

Washington, DC - The National Institutes of Health today launch a major effort to discover and catalog the brain’s “parts list.” The NIH’s Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative Cell Census Network (BICCN) aims to provide researchers with a comprehensive reference of the diverse cell types in human, monkey, and mouse brain. A network of integrated centers, collaborating laboratories, and data resources will be funded by 11 grants projected to total about $50 million annually over five years, pending the availability of funds. All data will be shared with the research community.

NIH study identifies brain patterns underlying mothers’ responses to infant cries

Washington, DC - Infant cries activate specific brain regions related to movement and speech, according to a National Institutes of Health study of mothers in 11 countries. The findings, led by researchers at NIH’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), identify behaviors and underlying brain activities that are consistent among mothers from different cultures. Understanding these reactions may help in identifying and treating caregivers at risk for child maltreatment and other problematic behaviors.

The City of Yuma Police Department is conducting an impaired driving detail on Saturday, October 28th, Sunday, October 29th, Monday, October 30th and Tuesday October 31st, 2017.  Officers will be looking for signs of an impaired driver behind the wheel.
