Vamori, Arizona - A Supervisory Border Patrol agent from the Casa Grande Station was assaulted by a 17-year-old male Mexican national on Thanksgiving Day near Vamori, Arizona.

The agent was working alone when he encountered three male Mexican nationals south of Sells, Arizona early that evening. While attempting to detain the group, the teen became combative, forcing the agent to use his pepper spray to complete the arrest.

Both the agent and teen were evaluated at a local hospital for minor injuries sustained during the scuffle.

All three Mexican men were arrested and processed for immigration violations in accordance with Tucson Sector guidelines. Additionally, the 17-year-old is being prosecuted by Pima County for assault.

Federal law allows agents to charge individuals by complaint, a method that allows the filing of charges for criminal activity without inferring guilt. An individual is presumed innocent unless and until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection welcomes assistance from the community. Citizens can report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol by calling 1-877-872-7435 toll free. All calls will be answered and remain anonymous.
