Yuma, Arizona - Many of the injury cases the Yuma Fire Department responds to are the result of falls. Last week at least 46 emergency medical responses were for injuries related to falls, and there have been many HUNDREDS of others this year. Every week about 10% of our calls for service are fall related. This could be something as simple as tripping in a parking lot or cases often more serious, like falling from a ladder or roof. No matter your age or activity, it pays to watch your footing and be careful.

Washington, DC - Communities in Mexico are still grappling with the impact of two powerful earthquakes that struck just weeks apart in September. The quakes—a magnitude 8.2 in the southern state of Chiapas and a magnitude 7.1 that occurred 100 miles outside Mexico City—caused widespread damage, deaths and injuries.

American Heart Association says proposed changes to school meals fails the nation's children

Washington, DC - American Heart Association CEO Nancy Brown made the following comments on an interim final rule issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The rule would allow school nutrition directors to include 1 percent flavored milk and refined grains instead of whole-grain rich products in school meals, as well as revise the sodium targets for daily school breakfasts and lunches: “This new rule deserves an ‘F.’  It fails the test when it comes to helping our kids eat healthier at school.
