Yuma, Arizona - As we approach the end of October, we would like to thank everyone who participated in the many activities that took place in our community during Fire Prevention Week and throughout the Month. Also, the end of October brings Halloween and a variety of associated events. Please keep safety in mind in whatever activities you are involved in. Here are a few suggestions:

FTC Approves Final Amendments to its R-Value Rule for Home Insulation Products

Washington, DC - As part of its systematic review of all current rules and guides, the Federal Trade Commission has concluded a two-year review of its R-value Rule. The Commission now implements amendments to reduce the regulation’s burden, clarify its requirements, and make it easier for the FTC to take action against deceptive R-value claims for non-insulation products.

Owners of Business Coaching and Development Service Scam Are Banned

Washington, DC -  The owners of four companies that allegedly bilked consumers trying to start online businesses from home have been banned from selling purported business coaching or development services under court-approved settlements with the Federal Trade Commission. The settlements, which resolve an FTC case brought in the District of Utah, also require the corporate defendants to turn over the remaining funds in their bank accounts to the FTC.

USDA Prioritizes Funding to Facilitate Safe Prescription Drug Disposal in Rural Communities

Washington, DC - Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Anne Hazlett Saturday announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will award additional priority points to Solid Waste Management Grant Program applications proposing innovative projects to promote the safe disposal of prescription drugs in rural communities. Hazlett made the announcement in observance of the 16th annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
