Yuma, Arizona - Thanks to generous donations to the AWC Foundation, over 50 deserving La Paz and Yuma County students will be attending AWC this academic year on scholarships totaling over $70,000.
The broad range of scholarships includes Education, History, Agriculture, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Nursing, Broadcasting, Massage Therapy, Communications, Honors, English as a Second Language, and General scholarships.
Individuals and groups from the community fund new and existing scholarships that are typically created in memory of loved ones or to honor someone. The Foundation awards the scholarships to students of Yuma and La Paz Counties, and the college gives back to the community in the form of an educated workforce. Susanna Pino, Development Coordinator with the AWC Foundation, says, “We have many scholarships, for example in regards to Nursing, our students receive the money that they need to go to school then they become nurses and they serve our community that way.” However, some scholarship recipients also relocate to other areas, she adds.
