Yuma, Arizona - 'Pokémon Go' is a virtual reality app incorporating the Nintendo characters and sends the players to different areas to capture what you need to fill out your Pokédex.  The game uses augmented reality so that it appears, via your phones camera, as if the Pokémon has been spotted in your house, neighborhood or where ever you are playing.

While this game is getting people out of the house and into the fresh air for some exercise there are some warnings The Yuma Police Department would like to share reference this game.

Please be aware of your surroundings.  We received several calls over the weekend reference suspicious subjects.  While you are walking around watching your phone trying to catch these little cyber critters some people think you may be a prowler or looking for a place to burglarize, especially at night.

The hours of operation for the public parks in the City of Yuma are from 1 hour before sunrise to 11:00 p.m.  Also the City of Yuma has a curfew for minors.  They cannot be out alone, without an adult, between 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

We also want to bring to your attention that there have been reports in other states where people, using this game, have lured game players to secluded areas and robbed or assaulted them.

We want you to have fun and enjoy being “out and about” exploring but please use caution, be safe and respect other peoples property.
