Yuma, Arizona - On Saturday, September 09, 2017 at 5:48 am, the Yuma Police responded to an injury collision at 4th Avenue and 3rd Street.

The investigation revealed a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle driven by John Rogers, 54 years old of Yuma, was eastbound on 3rd Street approaching 4th Avenue. There was also a 1999 Nissan Maxima driven by William Benavides, 53 years old of Yuma, who was traveling northbound on 4th Avenue approaching 3rd Street.

William Benavides failed to yield on a red traffic signal, and struck John Rogers within the intersection.

William Benavides was not injured. John Rogers was flown to Phoenix area Hospital with life threating Injuries. John Rogers succumbed to his injuries on Thursday September 14th.

The case will be forward to the Yuma City Prosecutors Office for review of possible charges.
