Yuma, Arizona - Recently, the Yuma Fire Department received a fire prevention grant award from FM Global. The grant totaled $1,650 and will be used for fire/arson investigation training. FM Global is one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers and has contributed millions of dollars in fire prevention grants to fire service organizations around the world.

“At FM Global, we strongly believe the majority of property damage is preventable, not inevitable,” said Michael Spaziani, manager of the fire prevention grant program. “Far too often, inadequate budgets prevent those organizations working to prevent fire from being as proactive as they would like to be. With additional financial support, grant recipients are actively helping to improve property risk in the communities they serve.”

FM Global representative Patrick Lauer was in Yuma to make the award at YFD Station #1 to Fire Chief Steve Irr, Fire Marshal Kayla Holiman, and Fire Investigator Mark Gordon. The grant will be used to send Investigator Gordon to training sponsored by the Arizona chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI).
