Gila Bend, Arizona - U.S. Border Patrol agents from Yuma Sector seized eight makeshift backpacks containing marijuana and arrested four suspected smugglers Sunday.
The marijuana weighed a total of 189 pounds with an estimated value of $94,500.
Wellton Station agents detected the four subjects near Gila Bend carrying large rectangular backpacks through the desert. Agents quickly located eight abandoned bundles of marijuana and discovered tracks leading away from the stash. Agents followed the footprints and apprehended the four suspects hiding behind stacked bales of hay.
All suspects admitted to being citizens ofMexicowho entered illegally into theU.S. The suspects and marijuana were transported to Wellton Station for processing. The marijuana will be destroyed per Yuma Sector guidelines.
